The Hawthorne Legacy, by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Since I LOVED The Inheritance Games so much, I had to run right out and get its sequel to be my first review this month. Let me tell you, Book #2 did not disappoint!! It picked right off where the last book left off, and brought you further into the warped mind of the deceased patriarch who thrived on mind games, puzzles, and mystery.
It brought the sizzle, the intrigue, and the character development to a deeper level.
The romance heated up with a Hawthorne triangle, and between that and trying to figure out more clues, yet again, I couldn’t put it down. I know which brother I am rooting for, but I’m not thinking that Avery (the main character) is on the same page as me haha. Each brother is so captivating, but one in particular has caught this reader’s heart and I am rooting for him all the way!
I will say that there was a twist that I was NOT happy about—but it was ingenious and clever to throw the reader off what could have been a predictable path, so kudos to the author for delivering some surprises. I did have one secret figured out in the last book that was tied to this book, and I did not see the twist coming because I was so locked in. I’ll just have to wait to see how it plays out in the final book.
I’m just mad that I have to wait until August for the trilogy’s conclusion! Fantastic series.
