The Awakening, by Nora Roberts
As always, I loved her work and could not put it down.
Torn between two worlds—literally and figuratively—the main character, Breen Kelly, is on a journey of self-discovery, truth and reconciliation. She starts out as this nobody, struggling through life with a mother who constantly puts her down and makes her feel less than. Thank goodness for Marcus, her bestie, and her brood of friend-family to give her the courage she needs to take the chance of a lifetime when an unexpected life twist hands her an unlimited future: to go to Ireland to search for answers about her father, and herself.
The Ireland story in itself was amazing to read, but once it the book really kicked off with the truth of her past, and we entered a world of magicks, Breen struggled once again—this time, about who she was. Was she the girl she left behind in America, or this destined, dream-getting, magical force of Talamh?
Ah, that’s still TBD, as the book left us with a cliffhanger!!
Overall, an incredible, breathtaking adventure that left me longing for book two!
