Book of the Week: It Starts with Us

It Starts with Us by Colleen Hoover

The long-awaited sequel to It Ends with Us. What can I say? Just wow. I have been so excited to read this book since I heard about it, given that I thoroughly loved its prequel, which was a powerful story about surviving abuse. This, however, was light on the abuse (yet very true to the lingering affects it has) and heavy on the healing, true love, and sweet, tender romance of childhood sweethearts reuniting as adults.

It had it all; conflict, drama, sweetness, reality, unexpected surprises.

I literally read it from front to back in a single night. I think most readers would agree that we were rooting for Lily to find a happy ending after all she has been through. We wanted to see how it would all turn out.

How would life as a single mother turn out? Would she and Atlas ever get back together? How would Ryle react? Will she ever be able to break free from her trauma?

This book answered all those questions and so much more.

I think what I adored most was taking the history laid out in the first book and giving it another layer with the narration of Atlas. Seeing his point of view of how it was for him while they grew up together, and the experiences that made him who he is today, gave the love story a much richer meaning. This sequel was well worth the wait, and gives hope that even after our darkest traumas, love and light still exist out there for us.

A story of possibilities, renewal, and true love—and a must read for every Colleen Hoover fan.
