Book of the Week: The Next Wife

The Next Wife, by Kaira Rouda

I really loved this novel. I read through it lightening quick, and every time I thought I could predict the ending, a different plot point was thrown in and I second guessed the outcome. I enjoy books that keep me guessing, and every time I thought I’d unravel the next turn of events, along scandalous twist comes along.

The Next Wife gives me the fantastical validation I would never get in real life—and the revenge, as well.

No, that’s not a spoiler alert—I’m not giving away any surprises. But, I will say, this story was possibly every first wife’s dream—haha, just kidding. Maybe *winks*

Okay, so maybe that’s “not very nice of me” over thirteen years later. And to be completely honest, I made peace with being a first wife and accepting the next wife in my situation, and truly believe everything happened the way it was meant to be. But, I won’t lie and say I didn’t put myself back into my 2009 worn out shoes and live vicariously through Kate’s eyes and wish for the downfall of that trophy wife, Tish for my own wishful karmic satisfaction.

Although it ended up being a fairly foreseeable whodunit (I would have loved there to have been some surprise character who played an underhanded role we didn’t see coming), I cannot deny that I loved every bit of the juicy turmoil of the first versus second wife and the daughter drama tossed in, and ultimately, the way it ended and the secrets that were revealed.

Definitely worth the read.
